AARP NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!
AARP Taxaide of Chippewa, Eau Claire and Dunn Counties is in need of volunteers.
Volunteers do not need to be a member of AARP or even retired to participate. Those who volunteer receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for program expenses. Those who take part help taxpayers at sites around the three counties.
AARP also needs greeters who answer questions about the program but do not need tax training.
For more information, visit the AARP Website or call 1-715-271-3243 to speak to the district coordinator.

Cha-Ching Chippewa! 2011
The AARP tax assistance program has crunched the numbers...Those who filed their taxes here at the Chippewa Falls Public Library in 2011 got an average return of $1060.00. The total returns for all those who worked with AARP here total $263,823.00.
The AARP Tax Assistance program is designed for the elderly and low-to-moderate income earners who need some help wading through their income taxes, both state and federal. Be sure to watch this space for announcements regarding next year's tax assistance schedule or check out our website.
By the way, the AARP tax assistance program is all-volunteer. If you or someone you know has any experience preparing taxes or is good with computers, the AARP looks for volunteers and will train those who participate.

AARP: One Month Progress
John Spaeth, area coordinator for AARP's tax assistance program, just popped into my office a second ago and told me in his enthusiastic way that between February 2 and March 6, they processed 204 returns and got the people of this area about $141,000 worth of tax returns.
The AARP volunteers get training to help people find the deductions, exemptions, etc. they may not know about and do their best to help people get them. Mr. Spaeth emphasized that not everyone will get a return--some people DO have to pay--but if a return is due, they try their best to find it.
By the way, the help is free, though they do accept donations from the grateful.

Busy Month @ The Library!
The Chippewa Falls Public Library will be hosting several free programs, events and workshops in the first few months of 2011, and we want to make sure that the community knows it!
From February 1st until the end of tax season, trained representatives of the American Association of Retired Persons will be in the library to assist the elderly and those with lower incomes with their taxes. A schedule of when AARP workers are available can be found on the library's website.
On Wednesday, February 16th, counselors from the World Financial Group will be holding seminars at the library throughout the day designed to help those attending figure out what types of investments, if any, are appropriate for them.
Saturday, February 19th is “Science Day” at the Chippewa Falls Public Library from 10:30 am-12:30pm, as honor students from Chippewa Falls High School come to show children ages 7-11 how cool science can be.
On Tuesday, February 22nd, financial aid counselors from the Educational Opportunity Centers at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire will be in the library from 6pm-8pm to help students and prospective students figure out how they can pay for higher education, even if they’ve been out of school for years. Tell a student!
On Friday, March 4th, the library will be hosting a Wii Gaming day for kids ages 7 and up from 10am—3:30 pm. This coincides with midwinter break school closings in the Chippewa Falls School District, so be sure to let a parent know.
Call the library at 715-723-1146 ext. 106 for more information on any of these programs.

Chippewa Falls Public Library: AARP Schedule 2011
Below is the schedule of when the AARP Tax Assistance team will be here at the Chippewa Falls Public Library in 2011. It's sort of early now, so nothing is showing, but if you click "Look For More," it will pop you down to February, which is when the program starts.
This calendar will be published on the library's homepage in the near future, but for now, I'll park it here to make it "Google-able."
