You Are A Lobbyist

February 22nd is "Library Legislative Day" down in Madison. Librarians, library professionals and library supporters from all over Wisconsin will be meeting with legislators and making the case that libraries are a worthwhile funding priority when decisions have to be made with public money.

If you use the library and believe in the public library as an institution, contact your state representative(s) some time this month and ask them to keep public libraries thriving as best they can. Let them know that libraries generate wealth in many ways, and not just from the continuous business they do with private employers in the state of Wisconsin and elsewhere. Let your legislators know that libraries provide a raw material--information--which is the ore from which intellect, progress, invention and success are mined, in turn. Tell them that in an economy such as this one, the library is more important than ever.

And tell them the Chippewa Falls Public Library and the Indianhead Federated Library System sent you.

Library Elf

I have meant to blog about this for a long time, but it kept slipping my mind, until now.

If one of your New Year's resolutions was to get more organized, then I've got something useful to show you.

Library Elf Instructions

The above link will take you to instructions for signing up with Library Elf, a service made available to members of the MORE system. Library Elf basically sends you alerts via email or text reminding you that you have books due OR that holds have arrived. I believe the free subscription we get through MORE is a premium one, though I confess I am not wholly certain.

Anyway, once you have looked at that little brochure, go here:

Signing Up In MORE

Follow the prompts to sign up. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly. I've been hearing about Library Elf for years, but just signed up myself today.

By the way, if you know someone else who might make good use of the service, feel free to send them a link to this blog, even if they don't live around here. They might be able to find their library on the list of libraries with Library Elf access.

Tax Form Delays

We get a good many people coming in or calling about tax forms, as the Chippewa Falls Public Library is part of the Tax Forms Outlet Program. This year, however, it looks like some of the forms will be delayed. We got this note from the IRS:

"Late Delivery of Instructions 1040--ALL and Instructions 1040A

"Instructions 1040--ALL and Instructions 1040A were released for printing and distribution on Jaunary 6, 2011. The impact of this is that these products may not arrive at your location until late January 2011. We are working with our printing partners to have these Instructions delivered to you as soon as possible."

It isn't like the IRS to be inefficient, so we'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Stay tuned for more updates.
